I'm really glad I found this thread as you all seem to be in the know when it comes to comparing a 320d to 330d. I have a 2003 320d which has just had a new turbo and now may have faulty injectors. I can get a set from the 330d pretty cheaply (Bosch part number 0445 110 030 instead of 0445 110 216).
The N42 unit is a torquey 4 pot, and can sing even in lower gears. The Stage 1 tune comes alive beyond 2000 RPM, pushing you into the seats and leaving you stunned. The engine is two-faced; one minute composed and in the next a devil. On highways the car is a dream. 5385 gives an average overall average of 9 kmpl.

If you are just talking about the LiquiMoly pre oil change engine flush I've done it every 15000 miles. It won't affect your engine negatively. Just follow the instructions which is to add it to the top BEFORE an oil change and let it run for 10 minutes AT IDLE. Then just drain and refill with new oil.
At some point after March 2009, the E90 320d's were upgraded to a more greener EfficientDynamics engine. Power remained at 130kW / 350Nm while consumption and CO2 emissions reduced from 6.0 to 5.4 l/100km and 160 to 144 g/km respectively.
